England player Jordan Henderson reveals he has faced "tough moments" since leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and acknowledges he might "have made different decisions".

The 35-year-old received backlash for leaving Liverpool in 2023 to join Al-Ettifaq in a nation where homosexuality are against the law.

Henderson had previously been a prominent advocate of LGBTQ+ rights and expressed regret for upsetting or upsetting people in the community members when he departed from Saudi Arabia to move to Ajax six months later.

England Career and Thoughts

Henderson was omitted from Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but is back to the Premier League with Brentford and the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

"In my opinion it was the reason why I was excluded from the Euros," Henderson remarked. "While I was in Saudi I feel I was in each gathering prior to the Euros."

"Timing, with all things in hindsight, yes - maybe I would have made different decisions."

"However at the moment that's how I felt and the decision I made was for various reasons and only I know them reasons."

Emotional Challenges

"Honestly speaking, over the past few years I have had various tough moments. It felt like a separation when I left Liverpool."

"Certainly I'm not perfect and I've made errors in the past. Naturally I will have over my career."

"However all I've ever sought to do is the correct thing."

International Career

Henderson has gained 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to face Wales and Latvia this week and feels he still has much to contribute on the pitch.

"The most important people are the head coach, the technical staff and the players and what they feel," said Henderson.

"Ask them what they think, if I am a supporter when I am here. I don't think one of the finest managers in Europe would be picking me just to do that."
